Can anybody tell me why Dirk Nowitski won the NBA MVP?

...When clearly,he was not in the top five in Scoring,Rebounding and Assist.Yes, he made the All-NBA 1st team. His Mavericks were stunned in the opening Playoff round. What do U think?...

Can anybody tell me why Dirk Nowitski won the NBA MVP?

I live in Dallas, and I'm a Mavericks Fan. And yes the reason why he won the MVP is becasue the team he is the leader of got the best record in the NBA. However Dirk does have one of the best supporting casts in the NBA as well. Personally (and I know people won't agree with me) the Lakers wouldn't have won as many games if Kobe Bryant (the best player in the league) wasn't there. No supporting cast. He is literally the most valualble player to his team.

Playoffs have nothing to do with the MVP. He was the best player on the best team. 90% of the time that's who get's the MVP.
Personally I think Nash deserved it, but Dirk did have a very good season. He scored 24.6 per game on over 50% shooting, 41.6% from three, and 90.4% from the line. He also pulled down nearly 9 rebounds per game. You have to admit, those are some impressive numbers.

Then factor in that he led Dallas to 67 wins, which I believe was 4th-most in NBA history. It's hard not to give the MVP to a player on a team that wins so many games. Granted he had a very good supporting cast, but he was the team leader.

If the playoffs factored into the MVP voting, no doubt it would have gone to Nash instead. But it's a regular season award, so it went to Dirk.
i hate him and nash ,but he won it because he was the best player on the "best team" he would not have won if the playoffs counted

Yeah I want to know the same exact thing. He's like any European player that plays soft. He's overrated. Even without him, the Mavs still would have done pretty decent. The MVP should be the most valuable player, and obviously there are a lot of good players on the Mavs; this includes Terry, Howard, Stackhouse, and Harris. I'm not trying to bag on the guy, but honestly, if you watch that first round series with GS, then that is not what an MVP should be. The regular season doesn't even matter; the playoffs are more important. Nowitzki just didn't step up and was invisible when the game was on the line. He is not worthy of this MVP award.

yeah he was selected as the MVP. I think Dirk deserved it considering what they did in the regular season.
because he was the mvp for the best team in the league during the regular series. they have a regular season and playoff mvp. i think playoff mvp might be boozer. that guy has been so crucial its stupid
Based on the regular season he was the best player on the best team in the league but other than that he was a bust.

He pushed his team to a great REGULAR SEASON. So he won the REGULAR SEASON MVP. He did get named to the first team all NBA for his play in the REGULAR SEASON. Now they are enjoying the playoffs on TV. He should have won it with Nash, Bryant and Duncan in the mix. God Bless
Dirk has really stepped his game up from last season even though i believe some other players should have gotten it but he has made changes that are noticeable and is leading his team.
here's one thing: He was the only player in the league this season to shoot at least 50 percent from the field (.502), 40 percent from three-point range (.416) and 90 percent from the freethrow line (.904).
